Overview
The PointNXT Model Context Protocol (MCP) Connector bridges Claude Desktop, Claude Code, and Anthropic conversational clients directly with your PointNXT Order Management System (OMS).
This integration allows merchants, operations teams, and warehouse managers to inspect live orders, query product inventory buffers, audit shipment fulfillment statuses, track customer return patterns, and examine multi-channel telemetry using plain conversational English.
Direct Endpoint: https://mcp.pointnxt.com/mcp
Standard MCP transport over HTTPS with encrypted session tokens and per-transaction rate limiting.
What This Connector Does
This is an enterprise read-focused connector engineered for zero operational risk:
- Safe by Design: Nearly all 32 tools retrieve telemetry and analytics from PointNXT. None perform destructive business actions such as cancelling orders, deleting products, or modifying live warehouse inventory counts.
- Strict Session Boundary: The only tools that alter state manage your own authentication session (sign in / sign out), completely isolated from merchant transactional data.
- Deterministic Schema: Responses are structured in compact, LLM-friendly formats to minimize prompt token usage and optimize reasoning latency.
Authentication & Session Management
This connector relies on OAuth 2.0 authorization. When you connect in Claude, you are redirected directly to PointNXT's official login interface. Your login credentials (passwords) are never shared with Claude or Anthropic.
Sessions are encrypted at rest via MCP_SESSION_ENCRYPTION_KEY, and the server enforces strict rate limits on authentication attempts both per IP address and per transaction to block credential brute-forcing.
| Tool Name | Description |
|---|---|
| authenticate_with_pointnxt | Opens PointNXT in your browser to sign in via OAuth without typing credentials into chat. |
| login_with_credentials | Authenticate directly with a PointNXT email and password (used for programmatic or test flows). |
| logout_pointnxt | Terminates the active PointNXT session and invalidates tokens immediately. |
| auth_status | Lightweight check of current authentication status without exposing tokens. |
| check_authentication | Verifies whether the current bearer authentication remains valid. |
| current_user | Returns profile details and tenant information of the currently authenticated PointNXT user. |

Security & Data Governance
PointNXT's MCP infrastructure is built for enterprise operations with strict safeguards:
- Token & Log Hygiene: Bearer tokens and sensitive authentication secrets are never written to application logs. Customer PII is excluded from error traces.
- Session Encryption: All active sessions are encrypted at rest. Production deployments enforce
MCP_SESSION_ENCRYPTION_REQUIRED. - Rate Limiting: Authentication endpoints enforce per-IP and per-transaction throttling to prevent brute-force attacks.
- Transport Security: All external communication strictly mandates TLS 1.3 / HTTPS encryption.
- Credential Isolation: Claude communicates via bearer tokens; your merchant master database passwords remain secure inside PointNXT.
Current Limitations
Please note the following technical boundaries for the current release:
- Customer, shipment, and stock modules represent early-stage, partial implementations focused on retrieval rather than mutation.
- Distributed tracing and third-party observability dashboards (e.g. OpenTelemetry, Datadog) are scheduled for upcoming roadmap releases.
- Destructive actions (cancelling live orders, issuing financial refunds, adjusting ledger quantities) are intentionally blocked over MCP.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
| Error / Symptom | Likely Root Cause | Resolution Steps |
|---|---|---|
401 Unauthorized |
Expired access token, invalid refresh token, or mismatched tenant ID. | Run auth_status or re-run authenticate_with_pointnxt to obtain a fresh session. Verify your tenant workspace ID. |
400 Bad Request |
Invalid request parameters or deprecated backend API version. | Check tool arguments against the reference table above (e.g. date format YYYY-MM-DD, valid order statuses). |
Connection Failure |
Endpoint reachability, corporate proxy, firewall, or container networking. | Verify backend availability at https://mcp.pointnxt.com/mcp. Ensure outbound HTTPS port 443 is unrestricted. |
